(Dublin, Saturday Sept 8, 2007) Cast members from the smash phenomenon La Clique were outside the Spiegeltent today to open the 13th annual Dublin Fringe Festival which, with 118 shows, is set to pimp Dublin with its eagerly anticipated, packed line-up of contemporary performing arts.
La Clique, which features a world-class role-call of circus and cabaret performers including sword-swallower MisBehave and bathtub aerialist David O’Mer, opens at 7.30pm on Saturday September 8th in the Fringe Spiegeltent and runs until September 23.
On the opening night there will also be a fantastic outdoor spectacle by Russian company Derevo. Audiences will then return to the Spiegeltent for the Hennessy SpiegelClub, where Red Hot & Brass band will entertain until the early hours (there’s a 2.30am license this year on weekends).
Joining La Clique in the Fringe Festival are 117 other shows which feature, among other things, a radical Stormont musical, bovine bone installations, freaked-up fire-shows, lunatic clowns, crazy nuns and Buddhist monks plus the biggest sell-out shows from Edinburgh and New York.
Add self-propelling suitcases, giant Rubik’s cubes, free haircuts by children and shiatsu massages, drug-addicted dogs, a personality café, a memory lab and plays by Mark Ravenhill, Albert Camus, Molière, Chekhov and Stewart Parker award-winner Declan Gorman to the mix and you’ve got the most intensely creative period in Dublin’s arts calendar.
